Gerber Prodigy Review

hey guys today I'm writing a review on the Gerber Prodigy.
You can expect to pay around 45-60$ for this knife.
So lets start with the specs
The Gerber Prodigy is 9.75 inch's overall with a 1/3 serrated 4.75 inch blade. The blade is US 420 HC stainless steel that has a ceramic coating for protection. This blade weighs in at 12.45 oz sheathed and 7.21oz in the hand. Includes friction lock Molle compatible sheath.
Made in USA Portland OH

I purchased the Prodigy in 2011 and instantly fell in love with this knife, It has a full tang blade made of high carbon steel. It holds its edge well and is easy to sharpen. The rubberized grip is almost sticky feeling in your hands and feels good in your hand no matter the position your holding. I can personally tell you this knife can take a beating and keep going and going. I have split wood made primitive trap triggers, carved a bow.used it to pry ,hammered, thrown, cut a car window out with it and it still has an edge. The military ran this knife through the MIRS tests and it passes for combat infantry to carry into the field with them.

Now on to the sheath.
Gerber did an great job on this sheath in my opinion,
The sheath features a friction lock on the hilt of the knife there is no rattle shake or shimmy. If that was not enough the put not 1 but 2 snaps for the handle. The sheath is only about an inch longer than the knife and it is molle compatible with fabric straps and snaps.

This knife in my opinion is more a utility/fighting knife than a bush craft knife whal it will work as a survival knife the serrations kinda get in the way whal performing interact carvings. I also feel the fine edge portion of the blade is a shy to short but still an awesome knife. I carried this knife as an EDC for about 7 months before going back to my Timberline i give it a 9 out of 10

I do not make sheaths for this knife but i could if requested.

Thank for reading guys

About my sheaths

Hey guys this time I'm going to talk about my sheaths.
First off they are made from kydex. Kydex is a mold able plastic.

I make my sheaths here in Enfield Connecticut. They are made from US made materials by me by hand.
I offer my sheaths in different colors there are standard colors and their are special colors the difference is cost usually around 5$ more a sheath
My standard colors are
Black
Purple
GI green
Neon green coyote brown
Orange
Coyote brown
Blue
Red olive
Yellow
Gunmetal grey
And my special colors are
Dutch woodland camo
Digital woodland
Navy
Digital Urban
Digital desert
Skulls
And neon green skulls

My sheaths are friction retention sheaths so there are no snaps clip or latches to draw the blade.
There non reflective and will not dull edge. There is no rattle or play in the sheath and best part is its all custom no one will ever have the exact same sheath as you
I can add ferocium rod holders or molle attachments just about anything you can think of.

I make my own custom clips the J-Hook 2-o'clock and scout clips
The J-Hook clip is my most versatile clip it allows the user to either slide over the belt or you can run the belt through for a more secure grip

The 2-O'clock clip is a simple but effective slide on belt clip

And the scout clip this is a hard mount clip meaning it can not be moved once i set it !
This clip allows the user to Carry there knife horizontally in the small of your back

The J-hook clip and 2-o'clock clip are both movable on the sheath minimum of 2 locations max 4 this allows the user to choose between left handed or right handed as well as regular upward oriented draw or downward oriented draw only needing a flat head screwdriver.
The clips screws also act as a tension adjuster
I recommend using lock tight on the threads of the Chicago screws

My sheaths are built tough so i personally offer a lifetime warranty on everything i make
Repair or replace (fire damage not covered)

Examples
If your fell down a rocky hill whale hiking and the sheath cracked or broke or cracked send it in to me and it will be replaced
If any structural damage happens or even if the profile of your knife changes due to use / sharpening and is loose send me both the sheath and knife and it will be remolded for the knife free of charge i even pay return shipping

Whats not covered is
Your camping under the stars by the fire and you sleep to close as a result your sheath melted  or you live in a very hot place and leave it in your car with the windows up in the sun on the dash you would have to pay a remolding fee

Thank you very much for reading my sheath description here's some pics

Schrade SCHF10 review

Hey guys mark here with a wright up on the schf10 from schrade
You can find this knife for around 40-60$ price tag and i think that's a modest price.

So the specs are
Overall this knife is 10.6 inch's with a blade length of 5.3 inch's this knife features a thick tang and the drop point blade is made of 8cr13mov steel tough stuff. Its scales in micarta handles that seem to grip well when wet.
Opening the box and removing the knife its weight is shocking at 14.6 oz

This is a great knife for anyone who is just getting into knives wants a quality knife or the woodsman camper hiker or survivalist this is a really tough knife and will take a beating and keep right on like it was nothing
The black protective coating is not the best in fact i think it looks great stripped as most of it will ware under heavy frequent use now this knife also has a copy the schf26 is identical other than it has rubberized handles.

Now on to the sheath
The sheath is your classic nylon with plastic insert the knife has a snap the secures it into the sheath and a small pouch. No molle nothing fancy about it it has the annoying rattle and flops around on your hip/leg not sure what they where thinking

We do offer a sheath for this knife :)

My overall rating of this knife is a 7 i took points away for the sheath and because its hard to resharpen an the protective coating wears off easily but please don't let this discourage you this is an amazing knife and i am very happy with my purchase
Thanks for reading guys let me know if you enjoy my blog and i will keep writing these reviews

Kabar Becker BK-7 review

Hey guys mark here from extreme edge
Im doing a review on the bk7 today

So first of the kabar runs ya anywhere from 80$-140 so its not the cheapest knife out there but it is definitely worth the money!
So lets run the specs
Overall this knife is 12 3/4 inches long with a 7 inch fine edge clip point blade
Its full tang crafted in 1095 cro van steel  HRC 56-58 blade thickness .188 zytel scales
Comes with a plastic insert nylon sheath with pouch and piggyback sheath molle compatible

So when you first get this thing in the store or mail you notice the monster becker adventure box. You open it upto unveil   a beautiful all black heavy duty bad ass blade i cant describe it better
It has a sandpaper like feel from thereally  heavy protective coating it feel like you need to have a big hand for it to feel comfortable the factory scales are very smooth and in my opinion you should apply grip tape or a ranger band to aid in grip i imagine this go's for all the bk series. This knife is super tough have friend who cut down and chopped uo a 13ft 9inch round tree just to see if it could do it is amazingly tough  and holds its edge well.
Now on to the sheath i am a huge sheath caretaker as you can imagine. I think for the price paid we should have revived a better quality sheath for this knife.
Kabar used the same sheath for both the bk7 and the bk9 this means for bk7 owners this sheath is way bigger than it needs to be its nice they threw in the molle and the Velcro on the belt loop but the strap is very tight and the lplastic insert creates an annoying constant rattle  the sheath also flops alot whal running.
We do make custom sheaths for this knife
My overall rating on this knife is a 9 out of 10 the sheath kills it but the knife alone is worth the price

Thanks for reading guys
More reviews coming

About me and extreme edge

Hello everyone
My name is mark This is my first blog attempt ever so please bear with me.
I am the creator and owner of Extreme Edge Custom Kydex
Where i make custom kydex knife sheaths by hand!
But you don't just wake up one morning and decide this is what you want to do with your life. So this being my first entry i will take the time to tell the story that brought me to the point i am at today!

Its summer 2011 my friend Carl and i decide to go out to get are selves  new knives and then go fishing. We go to dicks i pick out a Buck pac-light 143 Carl got the Bear Grylls compact fixed blade knife. We get to where we park strap on our new knives grab our gear and head out to the spot. Our fishing spot we like to use has a fire pit its about 1 1/2 miles down the beach. Now from the parking lot to the beach there's a wood line and a 2ft drop off. We get to out spot go out to the woods grab fire wood for the night and the. We get the poles ready. Its at this moment Carl realizes he lost his knife! The knifes sheath had a feature that allowed the user to carry with a downward draw but the knife falls right out and it did right into the sand we never heard the knife fall and it was GONE by the time he got back to where we think it dropped. Now i did not loose my knife but i was upset the American knife had a cheap china sheath!
Carl replaced the knife he paid 55$ twice for it and carried it in his pocket. This was my deciding moment how many other people purchased this knife expecting a all in one survival knife only to find that the sheath makes the knife extremely unreliable . I purchased materials and tools and that very knife and after a few attempts i produced a perfect retention sheath  that was reliable and Carl still has it and uses it to this day!

Over the years i have invented custom clips and new ways of doing things in the kydex sheath world supplying both foreign and domestic costumers

Thank you for reading my story my next blog post will be a detailed description of sheaths and options
